Puppy Supply Costs

In order to get a better grasp on the cost of getting a new puppy, as well as owning a dog in general, I decided to go on a pretend shopping spree for items that I would need before getting a puppy. I used the website PetFoodDirect.com because it had a very wide range of available items. Of course not all of these items are the exact products I would get, and some things I already have anyways. There are also still a few things that I would need that are not found in that store. Not everything on this list is absolutely necessary either. But this does give me a general idea of what it would cost to get supplies for a new dog.

Here is the list I came up with:

Ouch, puppies are definitely expensive. And this doesn't even include things like veterinary bills, training classes, boarding and daycare, and the cost of the puppy itself.

Of course when the time comes a puppy will be well worth the cost, but it is good to keep in mind things like this so you can be prepared when you decide to get a new dog.

Wow, you're going through the same thing I am! My name is Casey. I'm 23 and live in Sarasota, Florida. I originally wanted an English Springer, but once I began researching, I found out about the Welsh and fell head over heels in love with the breed. After talking to quite a few breeders, I finally found one i'm thrilled with who was going to be having a litter around the time which was just right for me, and now i'm just over a month away from bringing my still un-named puppy home. I knew supplies would cost a lot, but I didn't know it would add up to what it has so far! I also want to be able to groom my own dog, and something as simple as clippers can easily run you $150.00, and 46-tooth thinning shears are about $60.00. I also went through the food dilemma (I originally used to think Science Diet was "premium"... whoops) and finally decided on a company called Blue Buffalo. Anyway i look forward to keeping up with your blog... I just joined the Welsh Springer group on Yahoo which is how i happened to find it. I'm so glad to see someone else is having "Puppy Fever" just as much as i am!

Hi there!
How cool that you're also getting a Welsh puppy! You must be so excited. Who are you getting a puppy from, if you don't mind me asking? I'm still looking for my breeder. I've talked to some really great ones, just haven't made a decision yet. I'd love to chat with someone going through the new puppy thing, too. If you'd like you can drop me an e-mail at Leilia_Kimozoku@hotmail.com.

Good luck with your new puppy!
